The CleanHaus Guide to Spring Cleaning Your Home Room by Room

There's something genuinely satisfying about a proper spring clean. Not just a tidy-up, but a real, thorough reset of your whole home — the kind that leaves every room feeling lighter, fresher, and easier to live in.

The key to making spring cleaning feel manageable rather than overwhelming is to approach it room by room, with a clear idea of what each space needs. Here's our room-by-room guide.

Kitchen

The kitchen tends to need the most work, so it's a good one to start with while your energy is high.

  • Empty and wipe out all cupboards and drawers

  • Clean the oven, stovetop, and rangehood thoroughly

  • Descale the kettle and clean the inside of the microwave

  • Wipe down the fridge inside and out, and clean the seal

  • Pull out appliances and clean behind and underneath them

  • Clean the inside of windows above the sink

  • Check pantry items for expiry dates and organise

Bathrooms

  • Scrub grout lines and treat any mould

  • Descale showerheads and taps

  • Deep clean the toilet including behind and underneath

  • Clear out and wipe down the vanity and medicine cabinet

  • Wash or replace bath mats and shower curtains

  • Clean exhaust fans

Bedrooms

  • Wash all bedding including pillows, doonas, and mattress protectors

  • Vacuum the mattress and rotate it

  • Wipe down all surfaces including bedside tables and wardrobes

  • Clear out wardrobes — donate what you no longer wear

  • Vacuum under the bed and move furniture to clean beneath it

  • Wipe down skirting boards and door frames

Living Areas

  • Clean ceiling fans and light fittings

  • Dust all surfaces including shelving, entertainment units, and decor

  • Vacuum or steam clean upholstery

  • Clean windows and window tracks

  • Wipe down blinds or launder curtains

  • Move furniture and vacuum/mop underneath

Laundry

  • Clean inside the washing machine drum and run a cleaning cycle

  • Wipe down surfaces and clean behind the machine

  • Clear out and organise laundry products

  • Clean the lint filter in the dryer and wipe it down

Outdoors

  • Sweep and hose down outdoor entertaining areas

  • Clean outdoor furniture

  • Clear gutters if accessible and safe

  • Tidy garden beds and mow lawns

  • Wipe down exterior doors and handles

A Few Tips to Make It Easier

  • Work from top to bottom in each room — dust falls, so clean floors last

  • Do one room at a time and finish it before moving on

  • Have a donation bag and a bin bag on hand in each room

  • Open windows while you clean — the fresh air makes it more pleasant
